چکیده

Flow control has been studied since the early stages of research in telecommunication networks. In these early studies the term ow control has been used to describe almost any type of network control. With the rapid growth of telecommunication networks control and management, ow control has evolved as a distinct class of algorithms and substantial research e ort has been devoted to its study. An extensive survey of the most representative of these e orts is presented in this paper. The motivation for this work is the need for of a thorough, deep understanding of the ow control problem in gigabit, multiclass networks. A broad class of ow control schemes, namely optimal ow control, is considered within a game theoretic framework. The class of adaptive ow control mechanisms is not presented extensively, but valuable insight about the performance of such schemes can be gained from the study of optimal ow control policies. A number of important e orts to de ne and study fairness in the ow control context are discussed. The last part of the survey is devoted to works that address the fundamental problem of propagation delays in ow control for very-high-speed, wide-area networks. Presented in part in the 2nd ORSA Conference on Telecommunications, Boca Raton, FL, March 1992 Submitted to IEEE INFOCOM'93

On the Asymptotic Optimality of Opportunistic Norm-Based User Selection with Hard SINR Constraint

Recently, user selection algorithms in combination with linear precoding have been proposed that achieve the same scaling as the sum capacity of the MIMO broadcast channel. Robust opportunistic beamforming, which only requires partial channel state information for user selection, further reduces feedback requirements. In this work, we study the optimality of the opportunistic norm-based user se...

Control Theory and Economic Policy Optimization: The Origin, Achievements and the Fading Optimism from a Historical Standpoint

Economists were interested in economic stabilization policies as early as the 1930’s but the formal applications of stability theory from the classical control theory to economic analysis appeared in the early 1950’s when a number of control engineers actively collaborated with economists on economic stability and feedback mechanisms. The theory of optimal control resulting from the contributio...

Optimal anticipative congestion control of flows with time-varying input stream

This paper is concerned with a new type of congestion control method that we call anticipative congestion control, which exploits probabilistic information available at a network node about congestion at other nodes. Motivated by the Internet flows behaving according to the Transmission Control Protocol, we consider a flow with time-varying input stream. We design a Markov decision process mode...

Cross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness

This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...

Control of a Random Walk with Noisy Delayed Information

We consider the control of a random walk on the nonnegative integers. The controller has two actions. It makes decisions based on noisy information on the current state but on full information on previous states and actions. We establish the optimality of a threshold policy, where the threshold depends on the last action, and the noisy information. We apply the result to flow and service contro...
